Men's tennis defends home court against Washington
The No. 22 Arizona State men's tennis team continued to defend their home court as they defeated No. 23 Washington 5-2 at Whiteman Tennis Center. The Sun Devils moved to 14-2 overall and 2-2 in the Pac-10 while the Huskies fell to 13-7, 1-3. ASU is 7-0 at home this season.
The Sun Devils swept doubles for the third consecutive meet. The No. 53 ranked pair of Matt Brooklyn and T.J. Bellama blew past the Husky team of Patrick Fischer and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan 8-3. Andres Arango and Harry Skinner picked up an 8-5 win over Brad Bator and Andy Kurharsky. Wes Miller and John Nanosky II fought through six tie-breakers to win 8-7 (6).
The Sun Devils won four of their six singles matches. Arango picked up a 6-1, 6-3 victory in the No. 2 spot over Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan. The Sun Devils swept the bottom half of the lineup. Skinner defeated Derek Drabble in straight sets to win 6-3, 6-2. Miller clinched the match for his team with a 6-3, 6-3 win over David Chu. Bellama battled back after dropping his first set to pick up a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 win.
The Sun Devils have a tough week ahead of them as they host No. 4 UCLA and No. 5 USC. ASU takes on USC on Friday April 11th at 1:30 and the Bruins on Saturday April 12th at 1:00 p.m.
