Kennegard, Volpe named Arizona State Athletes of the Week
Jesper Kennegard (men's golf) and Karin Volpe (women's soccer) have been named Arizona State's Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 25. Both gave remarkable performances over the weekend in their respective sports.
Kennegard finished tied for eighth at World Team Amateur in Australia Oct. 16-18 with a 1-under 289. There were 192 golfers in the field. Last month the sophomore, an honorable mention All-American in 2007, finished fifth at the PING/Golfweek Preview. This is Kennegard's second Athlete of the Week nod this year.
Volpe scored her team leading seventh goal of the season in ASU's 1-0 win over No. 7 USC on Sunday. The win was ASU's first over a top-10 opponent since 2001. Volpe is just the fourth player to score on the defending national champion Trojans in their last eight games. With the goal, the 12th of her career, Volpe moved into a tie for ninth place with former Sun Devil Jaclyn Clark (1997-00) on ASU's all-time list. It was also the sixth game-winning goal of Volpe's career moving her into a tie for fifth place on ASU's all-time list.
