Galaviz breaks american steeplechase record


<p align="justify">A pair of former ASU track and field program members turned in record performances at the KBC Nacht van de Atletiek meet in Heusden, Belgium, Saturday afternoon as both Lisa Galaviz (Aguilera) and <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-track/mtt/aguayo_aaron00.html">Aa… Aguayo</a> posted personal best times in the 3,000m steeplechase. Also competing in the meet was current Sun Devil <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/c-track/mtt/engelhardt_ben00.html">… Engelhardt</a>, who took part in the 5,000m run.</p><separator></separator><p align="justify">Galaviz placed fourth overall in the women&#39;s 3,000m steeplechase as she clocked in at 9:28.75. Her mark not only bettered her own personal best time by over 10 seconds (previous was 9:38.94), but it also broke the American record of 9:29.32 set by Brianna Shook of Toledo nearly three years ago (July 31, 2004) on the same Belgium track. Galaviz, a former United States champion in the event, was an eight-time All-American for the Sun Devils.</p><separator></separator><p align="justify">Aguayo, who completed his career with the Sun Devils in June at the NCAA Championships in Sacramento, Calif., turned in a time of 8:20.34 in the men&#39;s 3,000m steeplechase at the same meet, lowering his personal best time by nearly seven seconds after he recently ran 8:27.01 at the USA Championships. A five-time All-American for the Sun Devils, Aguayo&#39;s previous best mark placed him second at the USA meet and earned him a berth on the IAAF World Championship in Athletics in Osaka, Japan, at the end of August.</p><separator></separator><p align="justify">Engelhardt, a redshirt freshman with the ASU cross country and track &amp; field squads, competed in the men&#39;s 5,000m run and placed ninth overall with a personal-best time of 14:35.79.</p>
