Football defense, January named ASU Athletes of the Week
The Arizona State Football Defense and Briann January (Women's Basketball) have been named ASU's Athletes of the Week for the week ending December 6. Both had incredibly successful games over the weekend, with the football defense setting a conference record.
The football defense set a Pac-10 record and tied the NCAA mark for most defensive scores in a game, scoring four touchdowns, returning three interceptions and one fumble for scores against the Bruins. In addition to the four turnovers for touchdowns, Arizona State limited UCLA to 306 yards of total offense and posted five quarterback sacks.
January averaged 17.5 points, 6.5 assists, 4.0 steals and 3.0 rebounds while shooting nearly 79 percent from the field, including 75 percent from beyond the arc, in games against Hofstra and Florida. The standout turned in a perfect day against Hofstra, making all six of her shots, including both three-point field goals, and all five free throws to score 19 points to go along with four rebounds, four assists and two steals.
