Flexcar gives you options

ASU Parking and Transit Services has partnered with Flexcar, the nation’s largest car-sharing company, to provide an easy, affordable and sustainable method of transportation for the university and surrounding community. Flexcar offers low-emission, fuel-efficient vehicles for rent by the hour or by the day. Flexcar members may use the vehicles for one simple fee, which starts at $8 an hour. The fee includes all costs including gas, insurance, parking, maintenance and 24-hour roadside assistance.

Ten Flexcar vehicles, including hybrids, sport-utility vehicles and a pickup truck, are parked around the Tempe campus (the Flexcar locations can be viewed at www.asu.edu/parking/PDFs/Flexcar_Map.pdf). ASU students, faculty and staff 18 years and older can become Flexcar members, and the annual $35 membership fee will be waived for individuals who sign up before Nov. 28.

Flexcar makes it easy to enjoy the freedom and convenience of driving a car without the costs and hassles of ownership. According to AAA, the average vehicle costs $7,830 a year to own and operate, but it sits parked and unused about 90 percent of the time. Flexcar allows drivers to pay only for the amount of time they need a vehicle for meetings, errands or a weekend escape.

Flexcar also helps improve the environment. Studies have shown that every car-share vehicle can take up to 15 private vehicles off the road, which means less pollution, traffic and parking congestion. For more information, visit http://www.flexcar.com/default.aspx?tabid=271, or call 1-877-FLEXCAR.
