Five Sun Devils named to Pac-10 All-Academic Baseball Team


<p> Five Arizona State University baseball student-athletes were named the 2008 Pacific-10 Conference All-Academic team, the conference announced today. Senior outfielder <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/mtt/sontag_ryan00.html">Ry… Sontag</a>, sophomore right hander <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/mtt/leake_mike00.html">Mike Leake</a> and junior catcher <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/mtt/paramore_petey00.html"… Paramore</a> were all named to the First Team, while senior righty <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/mtt/brader_dustin00.html">… Brader</a> and senior OF <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/mtt/laguna_rocky00.html">R… Laguna</a> were named to the Second Team.</p><separator></separator><p>Sontag and Paramore earned First Team honors for the second straight year.</p><separator></separator><p>A student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall GPA and either be a starter or a significant contributor. True freshman and transfer students are not eligible. This is the 12th consecutive season that Arizona State had had at least two members of the All-Academic Team.</p><separator></separator><p>Sontag (Monroe, Mich.) carries a 3.66 GPA and recently graduated with a degree in kinesiology. He is batting .386 with four homers and 33 RBI. Paramore (Allen, Texas) was named a Second Team Academic All-American by ESPN The Magazine and was named First Team All-Pac-10 for the third straight season. He has a 3.65 GPA as a BIS major focusing on business and communication. He's hitting .347 with seven home runs and 46 RBI. Leake (Fallbrook, Calif.) was named the Pac-10's Pitcher of the Year and also earned First Team All-Pac-10 and Second Team All-American honors from Collegiate Baseball. He has a 3.40 GPA as a management major and is 9-2 with a 3.18 ERA on the mound. He is also hitting .341 with two homers and 11 RBI.</p><separator></separator><p>Brader (Selah, Wash.) recently graduated with a degree in BIS, focusing on education and business. He has appeared in 19 games, posting a 1-0 record with two saves. Laguna (Yuma, Ariz.) is doing post-graduate work, after earning his degree last year. He carried a 3.33 GPA while studying Higher Education.</p>
