Carpenter and Herring named to Maxwell Award watch list


<p> Senior quarterback <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/carpenter_rudy00.html"… Carpenter</a> and senior running back <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/herring_keegan00.html"… Herring</a> have been named to the Maxwell Award Watch List, the award presented to the outstanding collegiate football player in America.</p><separator></separator><p>Carpenter (Westlake, Calif.) threw for 3,202 yards and 25 touchdowns in 2007, leading the Sun Devils to a 10-3 record and a share of the Pac-10 championship. He was an Honorable Mention All-Pac-10 selection for the second straight season.</p><separator></separator><p>Herring (Peoria, Ariz.) led Arizona State with 815 rushing yards in 13 games in 2007. He also ran for five scores. Herring has rushed for 2,234 yards and 17 touchdowns in his career.</p><separator></separator><p>Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced in early November and three finalists will be announced November 25th. The winner of the 2008 Maxwell Award will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show in December. The formal presentation of the award will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards Gala hosted by Harrah's Entertainment Atlantic City on March 6, 2009.</p><separator></separator><p>The watch list candidates have been chosen by the Maxwell Football Club's Selection Committee and the Maxwell Club reserves the right to make additions and subtractions to these lists as the 2008 season unfolds. All members of the Maxwell Football Club, NCAA Sports Information Directors, Head Coaches and selected national media are eligible to vote for these awards.</p>
