Carpenter on 2008 Walter Camp award watch list

August 18, 2008

Arizona State University senior quarterback Rudy Carpenter has been named to the Watch List for the 2008 Walter Camp Player of the Year award, the nation's fourth-oldest individual college football accolade.

Carpenter (Westlake, Calif.) threw for 3,202 yards and 25 touchdowns as a junior while leading the Sun Devils to a 10-3 record and earning Honorable Mention All-Pac-10 honors for the second straight season.

He enters his senior season with the second-longest streak of consecutive starts in the nation with 31, and he leads all active Pac-10 quarterbacks in passing yards (7,998), touchdown passes (65), pass completions (586) and 300-yard passing games (nine).

The Watch List will be narrowed to 15 semi-finalists in early November. The 2008 Walter Camp Player of the Year recipient, which is voted on by the 119 NCAA Bowl Subdivision head coaches and sports information directors, will be announced on the ESPN/Home Depot College Football Awards Show in December. The winner will then receive his trophy at the Walter Camp Football Foundation's annual national awards banquet on Jan. 10, 2009, at the Yale University Commons in New Haven, Conn.
