Baseball defeats San Diego


<p>Ten different players recorded a hit on Monday as the No. 1 Arizona State University baseball team defeated San Diego 15-0 in front of 2,967 fans at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark. The Sun Devils improved to 26-1 on the season with the victory.</p><separator></separator><p>ASU scored runs in each of the first seven innings to dominate the Toreros. <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/mtt/swagerty_jordan00.html… Swagerty</a> led the offensive attack, going 3-for-6 and driving in two runs. <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/mtt/maggi_drew00.html">Drew Maggi</a>, <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/mtt/wilson_zach00.html">Za… Wilson</a>, <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/mtt/ruettiger_johnny00.htm… Ruettiger</a> and <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/mtt/patterson_jimmy00.html… Patterson</a> all had two hits each, and Maggi, Wilson and <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/mtt/macphee_zack00.html">Z… MacPhee</a> had two RBI apiece in the win. Ten different Sun Devils drove in at least one run in the game.</p><separator></separator><p><a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/mtt/rodgers_brady00.html">… Rodgers</a> got the start and went seven innings, allowing just four hits and striking out six to earn the win and improve to 2-1 on the year. <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/mtt/moody_josh00.html">Josh Moody</a> pitched two scoreless innings of relief to finish off the game.</p><separator></separator><p>The Sun Devils jumped on top early with two runs in the first. <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/mtt/torrez_riccio00.html">… Torrez</a> started the scoring with an RBI single and Wilson followed him with a run-scoring single of his own. They added three more runs in the second, as Maggi and <a href="http://thesundevils.cstv.com/sports/m-basebl/mtt/calhoun_kole00.html">K… Calhoun</a> each had RBI singles and Maggi scored on an error.</p><separator></separator><p>ASU added single runs in each of the next four innings to take a 9-0 lead, and then capped off the scoring with six runs in the seventh. Swagerty and MacPhee had two RBI apiece in that inning.</p><separator></separator><p>The Devils finish up their two-game series with San Diego on Tuesday, with first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m. at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark.</p>
