ASU beats Long Beach State
Ty Abbott scored 15 points to lead the Arizona State Sun Devils to a 72-55 victory over the Long Beach State 49ers in a non- league tussle at Wells Fargo Arena.
Kyle Cain registered a double-double in the win for Arizona State (6-4), finishing with 12 points and a game-high 16 rebounds. Trent Lockett chipped in 10 points as well for the Sun Devils, who have now won three straight.
Greg Plater tallied 15 points to lead the way for Long Beach State (5-8), while Casper Ware and T.J. Robinson notched 12 points apiece, with Ware collecting 13 boards as well.
The 49ers shot at a respectable 45.0 percent clip from the floor during the opening stanza, but a 6-of-16 effort from beyond the arc gave ASU a 34-28 halftime lead.
The Sun Devils then held the 49ers to a miserable 25.0 percent from the field in the second half to roll to the 17-point win.
The 49ers shot just 33.3 percent from the field and 4-of-18 beyond the arc in the loss.
