ASU Graduate College announces new director of graduate student support resources

Amanda Athey, former director of the Graduate School at the University of New Orleans, joined the Graduate College at Arizona State University as the new director of graduate student support resources on Feb. 3.

Athey has worked in graduate education since 2002 and served on the Louisiana Council of Graduate Schools.

“I’m very excited to participate in the vision of the Graduate College to enhance the graduate student experience,” Athey said. "I look forward to getting a better understanding of student goals and to working with the impressive faculty at ASU.”

“Amanda comes with a great deal of experience working directly with graduate students and faculty,” said Alfredo Artiles, dean of the Graduate College. “I am confident she will be a great contributor to the college’s mission and student support initiatives.”

Athey earned a bachelor's degree in English from the University of New Orleans and a master's degree in comparative literature from the University of Georgia.

“I’m especially looking forward to meeting with the students. Graduate students bring so much real-world experience and passion to higher education — it is humbling to be part of their journey,” Athey said.
