Arizona State University School of Art Assistant Professor Christine Lee has an installation at the Center for Art in Wood in Philadelphia for the group exhibition “Making a Seat at the Table: Women Transform Woodworking.”

Lee is one of 43 artists and makers from throughout North America who identify woodworking as part of their practice and are featured in the show. Understanding that the field has historically been dominated by men, this exhibition intends to showcase some of these women, showing the breadth of the current field of woodworking and how these makers are both expanding the edges of the field and holding down the center. The exhibition presents a diversity of objects, made with a diversity of intentions — from small-batch products to one-off works, representing a range of technical approaches and scales.

Lee has an interdisciplinary practice straddling art, design, science and sustainability. Her work has been exhibited at venues such as SOFA Chicago, San Francisco Museum of Craft and Design, the Museum of Arts and Design in New York City, the Bellevue Arts Museum, the Society of Arts and Crafts in Boston, the Aspen Art Museum, the Racine Art Museum and the ASU Art Museum.

The exhibition runs through Jan. 18, 2020, at the Center for Art in Wood in Philadelphia.
