ASU art student selected for XL Catlin Art Prize traveling exhibition

Larry Madrigal, a graduate student in the School of Art in Arizona State University’s Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts, was shortlisted for the XL Catlin Art Prize traveling exhibition.

The XL Catlin Art Prize in the U.S. builds on a 10-year legacy of the XL Catlin Art Prize in the United Kingdom, which recognized young artists through a prestigious London exhibition and catalog publication. The prize established a reputation as an insightful overview of emerging talent. The juried art contest included a traveling exhibition of figurative work, painting or drawing, by undergraduate or graduate art students enrolled in U.S. art programs.

The 2018 XL Catlin Art Prize exhibition jury, which included Ian Alteveer of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Jennie Goldstein of the Whitney Museum, Laura Hoptman of MoMA, and Kara Vander Weg of the Gagosian Gallery, selected Madrigal for inclusion. His work appeared in exhibitions at the San Francisco Art Institute, at the Linda Warren Projects gallery in Chicago and at the New York Academy of Art.

The contest was sponsored by XL Catlin, a major art insurer.
