The Latin American Academy of Sciences has announced the election of Arizona State University's Professor Fernando Ponce as a Foreign Corresponding Fellow.
The academy announced 35 new fellows and six new Foreign Corresponding Fellows.
“Our fellows are key to the academy’s fundamental purpose of using science for the benefit of Latin America and the Caribbean,” said the academy in a press release announcing the elections. “For their outstanding contributions to research and innovation, both now and in the future, it gives us great pleasure to welcome some of the world’s best scientists into our academy.”
Ponce is a professor in ASU’s Department of Physics. His research focuses on the physics of semiconductor materials, especially as they apply to sending and emitting light. He received his bachelor’s degree in physics from the National University of Engineering in Lima, Peru, and his doctorate in materials sciences and engineering from Stanford University in California.
