International lighting artist Leni Schwendinger is next p.a.v.e. speaker

Who
The next p.a.v.e. lecturer on arts entrepreneurship at the ASU Herberger Institute School of Theatre and Film is Leni Schwendinger, a world-renowned lighting designer, artist, filmmaker and entrepreneur.

What
p.a.v.e., the performing arts venture experience, is funded by part of a $5 million grant to ASU by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation to further cross-campus entrepreneurship education. On March 1, join Schwedinger, of Light Projects LTD in Manhattan, who creates lighting environments for architectural and public spaces in some of the world's most cosmopolitan cities. Her talk is titled, Creativity and Innovation across Design and the Arts.

"These works are created to energize architecture, landscape and infrastructure with the ultimate objective of connecting people to each other and to their surroundings," Schwedinger states on her Web site. "Balancing technological sophistication, solid project management and artistic verve, the Light Projects methodology has produced a distinctive series of interactions with clients ranging from state and municipal agencies and architectural and engineering firms to museums and events."

The grant from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation is an example of the benefits a research university like ASU brings to the state. Each year, Arizona universities pump almost $1 billion into the Arizona economy through grants funded by the U.S. government and other entities. Research funding is legally restricted and cannot be used for instructional or other purposes.
