The Design School programs rank in top 10
Three programs in The Design School in the ASU Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts were ranked among the top design and architecture programs in the region.
The prestigious 14th annual DesignIntelligence rankings placed The Design School’s undergraduate interior design program first in the region, graduate industrial design program third in the region, graduate architecture program fourth in the region and undergraduate industrial design program fifth in the region.
“The DesignIntelligence rankings recognize that the quality of curricula, faculty research and opportunities for trans-disciplinary collaboration distinguish programs at The Design School from those offered at other institutions," said Craig Barton, director of The Design School. “I think that the rankings demonstrate that our programs continue to provide students with skills and experience necessary to lead within their respective disciplines.’’
The annual DesignIntelligence “America’s Best Architecture & Design Schools” rankings come from an in-depth survey that asks more than 1,100 of the nation’s architecture, landscape architecture, interior design and industrial design professional practice leaders and organizations to evaluate which programs are doing the best job at preparing students for their professions based on the graduates these firms have hired.
Additionally, deans and chairs representing 29 industrial design programs nationally ranked ASU’s industrial design program fourth in the nation as one of the most admired undergraduate industrial design programs for its design innovation and integrated curriculum.
The rankings also place The Design School 16th in the west for American Institute of Architect Fellows, an honor bestowed upon those who have made outstanding contributions to the profession through design excellence, contributions in the field of architectural education or the advancement of the profession. Fewer than 2 percent of all registered architects in the United States are elected to fellowship in the American Institute of Architects.
In addition to architecture, industrial design and interior design, The Design School at ASU also offers landscape architecture, urban design and visual communication design. The school is one of the most comprehensive and collaborative design schools in the country, requiring its students to master their respective fields of study but also to understand, communicate and collaborate across the other design disciplines.
