ASU’s Educational Outreach and Student Services is redefining and expanding its leadership team’s roles to keep pace with the university’s rapid growth and evolving needs.
Educational Outreach and Student Services (EOSS) is charged with helping connect the university with the surrounding communities to provide access to higher education. The EOSS team also works to boost student success by helping with everything from residence hall life to student government. EOSS leaders will take on new or larger roles as the university not only provides educational access to more students, but continues to find new, innovative paths to learning.

Edmundo Hidalgo, former president/CEO of Chicanos Por La Causa, has joined the university and will serve as vice president of Outreach Partnerships. In an effort to improve individual and collective economic prosperity through education, Hidalgo will lead ASU’s efforts to develop a comprehensive approach to outreach to include private and public-sector partnerships.

Jennifer Hightower will serve as the vice president of student services. In her expanded role, she will work to ensure that all current ASU students have an optimum learning environment facilitated by timely and responsive service.

Beatriz Rendon, vice president of Educational Outreach and chief executive officer of ASU Preparatory Academy, will expand the reach and impact of outreach efforts and launch ASU Preparatory Academy’s new online school in the fall of 2016.

Other EOSS organizational changes include:
Dr. Kevin Cook’s new role as deputy vice president of Student Services and dean of students at Tempe will reflect comprehensive university-level responsibilities that include core support for distinctive student populations and student advocacy.

Dr. Aaron Krasnow, associate vice president of Counseling and Health Services, will continue to lead the effort of providing innovative health services and will now oversee ASU Wellness.

Safali Patel-Evans, assistant vice president and EOSS chief of staff, will continue managing the role of deputy Title IX coordinator and will add operational responsibility for New Student and Family Programs to her portfolio.

Dr. Georgeana Montoya, assistant vice president and dean of students at downtown Phoenix, will also now have operational responsibility for ASU Career Services.

Dr. Sharon Smith, dean of students at West, will have university-level responsibility for Culture @ ASU, in addition to her current responsibilities.

Lance Harrop, dean of students at Polytechnic, will have university-level responsibility for Disability Resources for students, in addition to his current responsibilities.
“Our team’s mission is to prepare future students and families to enroll and succeed at the university, and to support academic success among a diverse student body,” said Dr. James Rund, ASU’s senior vice president for Educational Outreach and Student Services. “These changes will help us better leverage our talent and expand our capacity amid an evolving learning environment.”
EOSS provides comprehensive student services to support all current ASU students and the broader student community via our outreach programs.
“ASU’s initiatives in access, student services and ASU Preparatory Academy charter schools are rooted in ASU’s commitment to access, excellence and impact,” Rund said.
