ASU Homecoming 2015: Forever Bold, Maroon and Gold

The days are getting shorter, the nights are getting longer and Sun Devils everywhere know what that means — it’s Homecoming time.

Arizona State University Homecoming 2015: Forever Bold, Maroon and Gold will take place Nov. 8-14.

A time-honored ASU tradition, Homecoming brings together students, parents and alumni to celebrate their Sun Devil spirit. The weeklong festivities include athletic events, on- and off-campus activities and entertainment.

The highlight of the week is the Homecoming game, when the Sun Devils take on the Washington Huskies at Sun Devil Stadium on Nov. 14.

The Programming and Activities Board Homecoming Committee, in partnership with ASU, has put together a schedule that has something for everyone. Below is a listing of Homecoming 2015 events and activities.

Sunday, Nov. 8

Sparky’s Challenge 5k/10k Run
3 p.m.
West Campus — North Parking Lot

This family-friendly event is meant for people of all ages and ability levels. Participants can choose to walk or run in either the 5K or 10K, and then attend Sparky’s Carnival once they cross the finish line. Registration required: http://tinyurl.com/SCandC2015. Registration opens at 3 p.m. The 10K begins at 3:30 p.m., and the 5K begins at 4 p.m. Read more about the event here.

Sparky’s Carnival
3:30-6:30 p.m.
West Campus — North Parking Lot

Sparky’s Carnival is open to ASU students as well as the community. Featured attractions include carnival rides, live entertainment and more.

Monday, Nov. 9

Comedy Show, featuring comedian Joel McHale
Doors open at 7:30 p.m.
Opening act begins at 8 p.m.
Main performance begins at 8:30 p.m.
Tempe campus — Wells Fargo Arena

Start your Homecoming week with some laughs at a comedy show featuring comedian Joel McHale, best-known for hosting “The Soup” on E! and portraying Jeff Winger on the NBC/Yahoo! comedy series “Community.” Click here to reserve tickets.

Tuesday, Nov. 10

Homecoming City of Lights Dance
7-10 p.m.
Downtown Phoenix campus — A.E. England Building and Civic Space Park

Don’t miss out on a night dancing under the lights. Enjoy free food, entertainment, green-screen photography and giveaways. This event is free to all ASU students plus one guest (18+ with proper identification). Dress is semi-formal.

Wednesday, Nov. 11

Veteran’s Day — No events scheduled.

Thursday, Nov. 12

Homecoming Hall of Fame Reception
6–7:30 p.m.
Tempe campus — McCord Hall Plaza

Join the W. P. Carey School of Business for an evening of celebration with Dean Amy Hillman as they honor alumni who have demonstrated leadership and achievement in their profession, the community and the business school. RSVP here.

The Devils Royale
7-10 p.m.
Polytechnic campus — Student Union Ballrooms

Try your luck at Devils Royale, a casino game night featuring blackjack, poker, roulette and craps tables. Come in your best threads and compete in the best-dressed contest to win great prizes; then show off your stellar outfit on the dance floor to the music of a live DJ. Enjoy mock-tails and sweet treats before jumping in front of the lenses of a photo booth and snapping the perfect Homecoming picture.

Friday, Nov. 13

Cronkite Day
Noon–5 p.m.
Downtown Phoenix campus — First Amendment Forum

The Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication will host Cronkite Day, an annual large-scale alumni celebration. The event features social, career development and networking opportunities for alumni, students and friends of the Cronkite School, including panel discussions on a variety of topics, as well as building tours. The day concludes with an ASU Downtown Phoenix campus alumni reception across the street at the A.E. England Building.

Men’s Basketball Game — ASU vs. Sacramento State
5:30 p.m.
Tempe campus — Wells Fargo Arena

Cheer on Sun Devils men’s basketball as the team hosts the Sacramento State Hornets.

Lantern Walk
Event will immediately follow the Sun Devil men’s basketball game
Tempe — “A” Mountain

Each year students, alumni, faculty, staff and friends climb to the top of “A” Mountain carrying lanterns to light up Tempe, following in the footsteps of their Sun Devils predecessors.

Saturday, Nov. 14

Homecoming Parade
Parade will begin four hours before the football game
Tempe campus — the parade begins near the corner of University Drive and Myrtle Avenue

Free and open to the public. Watch as classic cars, floats, the ASU Marching Band and Sparky the Sun Devil bring ASU cheer throughout campus.

Block Party
A Block Party will immediately follow the parade.
Tempe campus

This year’s block party will be filled with food, fun, entertainment and more. Be sure to stop by these booths.

     Biodesign Institute

     Groove on over to the ASU Biodesign tent before the game to make your very own lava lamp. Spin the prize wheel before you leave and win when you answer a question about how Biodesign’s science improves health, protects lives and sustains our planet.

     ASU Gammage

     We "triple dog dare you" to visit the ASU Gammage Homecoming tent this year. Inspired by “A Christmas Story, the Musical,” the tent features fun family activities, treats and prizes. Don’t miss a chance to have your picture taken with Santa.

     Hispanic Business Students Association

     The Hispanic Business Students Association will host the 15th annual Carne Asada Tailgate.

     Office of Knowledge Enterprise Development

     ASU has been named the No. 1 innovative university in the nation — celebrate this achievement by visiting the booth for giveaways and family fun.

     Admission Services

     Interested in becoming a Sun Devil and pursuing a degree at ASU? Stop by the Future Sun Devil Welcome Center on the north side of the new College Avenue Commons Building for more information.

     College of Letters and Sciences

     Be Forever Bold and show your Maroon and Gold spirit with a (temporary) Sparky tattoo. The College of Letters and Sciences booth is also a source for food, fun and great giveaways.

     College of Nursing and health

     True Devils fans are welcome to cheer on the team with the College of Nursing and Health Innovation — and stay focused on their health: Have a member of this team check your blood pressure and pick up a Frisbee.

     Education Outreach and Student Services

     The Future Sun Devils tent will feature interactive activities for K-12 students, including games, a photo booth and a prize wheel. ASU representatives will be available to answer questions about Access ASU K-12 programs, ASU Preparatory Academy and life as a college student.

     Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts

    Join the ASU Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts community to learn about art on campus and participate in fun, interactive art experiences with the ASU Art Museum.

     W.P. Carey School of Business

     Join business school alumni and friends in the W. P. Carey tent and reconnect with them before the big game.

     Arizona PBS

     Nerds unite! Join Arizona PBS for the fifth annual PBS Nerd Walk, a cultural experience celebrating individuality and all brands of nerdery from education fanatics to culinary wunderkinds and science geeks — there’s a “nerd-dom” for everyone. To register, click here.

     ASU Now

     The university's news team will be displaying features of its new website at three booths located on the Tempe campus.

     Alumni Association

     The ASU Alumni Association will feature a variety of booths, from Sparky Plates to airbrush artists to “Football Legends,” where former Sun Devil football stars will be on site to sign autographs for fans and take photos for two hours after the parade.
