ASU students and alumni helped out with the project, which beautified a vacant 2-acre block in downtown Phoenix and then sustainably used the sunflowers to make oil, charcoal and compost.

Charles St. Clair reenacts Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech at the March on West event in celebration of MLK Day. St. Clair teaches acting and directing at the West campus and he is also the technical director for the Division of Humanities Arts and Cultural Studies in the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences.

During a pep rally on the Fletcher Lawn, Sparky greets participants in the first ever Sun Devil Sleepover event on the West campus. Around 50 high school students and their parents responded to invitations from ASU and took part in a two-day orientation. While on the West campus, they were given tours, listened to a lecture and enjoyed lunch at Barrett, the Honors College. They also took a trip to Tempe to watch the ASU-Washington basketball game and spent a night in the dorm, thus the "sleepover."

The traveling production of "Wicked" began its four-week run at ASU's Gammage Auditorium, Feb. 15. As the Broadway show set up on the Gammage stage, Feb. 14, production stage manager Jason Daunter took time to speak to students in the theatre department about the business of show business.

NASA astronaut Cady Coleman visited the Polytechnic campus to share her experiences onboard the International Space Station during and explain how research conducted in space has a number of impacts on Earth.

Jeremy Staat, alumnus and veteran, arrives at ASU during a stop on his "Wall to Wall" bicycle ride across the country to raise awareness and support for veteran services and causes throughout the nation. The tour began at the Wall of Valor in Bakersfield, Calif., Feb. 19, and will stretch 4,623 miles over the course of 100 days to the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington D.C. Friend and veteran Wesley Barrientos is accompanying Staat on the Wall to Wall tour. Born in Guatemala, Barrientos enlisted in the U.S. Army upon turning 18 years old. It was during his third tour of Iraq in 2007 that his military convoy was struck by an explosive device, resulting in the amputation of both his legs.

Real-life guests mingled amongst figurative imagery created by artist Kelsey Viola Wiskirchen at the opening for her Masters of Fine Arts thesis exhibition, "Handed On." The installation reflected on the role that weaving plays in today’s societies: sharing of stories, continuation of tradition and creation of new opportunities, as well as the camaraderie and empowerment that women throughout history have shared through the creation of textiles.

The ASU Staff Council celebrated the service and achievements of all the ASU staff with a BBQ on the Alumni Lawn in front of Old Main.
