Women's tennis wraps-up ITA Southwest Regional
The Arizona State women’s tennis team concluded play at the ITA Southwest Regional, Saturday as both the doubles team and singles players remaining were eliminated.
Competing in the doubles round of 16, freshman Joanna Smith and junior Nicole Smith faced off against the doubles pair of Ellison/Ellison of San Diego State. Despite a hard-fought match, the SDSU pair defeated the ASU duo, 8-5.
The doubles pair of senior Sianna Simmons and freshman Leighann Sahagun also competed in the round of 16, but dropped their match to the duo of Christian/Santamaria of USC, 8-1.
In singles consolation play, freshman Joanna Smith played a tough three setter against Hawai’i Hilo’s Kelsey Daguio. Smith tied up the match 1-1 after the second set, but the Sun Devil eventually fell to Daguio, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
