Women's golf takes second at PING/ASU Invitational


The fourth-ranked Arizona State women’s golf team finished in second place at the 2012 PING/ASU Invitational at the ASU Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz., April 1. The Sun Devils shot a three-round total of 17-over 869 (280-298-291) for the tournament.

Senior Giulia Molinaro led the Sun Devils for the sixth-straight tournament, shooting a 3-under 68 in the final round for a three-day total of 2-over 215 (73-74-68). Ranked fourth in the nation, according to Golfweek, the senior finished the home event in a tie for seventh place. On the season, Molinaro has recorded six top-10 finishes and has never finished outside the top-15 in a tournament.

Sophomore Justine Lee finished a tie for 11th after recording a career-low first round total of 67 on Friday. For the tournament, Lee shot a 4-over 217 (67-77-73) for her fourth top-15 performance of the season. Sophomore Laura Blanco also recorded a career-low round on the first day of the tournament, shooting a 2-under 69 on Friday.

The Sun Devils next travel to Pullman, Wash. to compete in the first-ever Pac-12 Women’s Golf Championship, April 27-29, hosted by Washington State.
