February 26, 2013

The 17th-ranked Arizona State women’s golf team leads the field at the first-annual Cal Classic at the Ruby Hill Golf Club in Pleasanton, Calif., Feb. 25. The Sun Devils shot a first-round total of 8-over 296, two shots ahead of Stanford and UC Davis who are tied for second at 298.

Sophomore Noemi Jimenez leads the field for the second straight tournament. Jimenez shot a 4-under 68 in the first round, just one stroke shy of her career low of 67 she set this season in the opening round of the Dale McNamara Invitational. Junior Laura Blanco has ASU holding on to the top-two individual spots in the tournament after shooting 1-under 71 in the first round. Blanco started out 2-over through two holes but knocked in several birides, including her final birdie on 17th hole to put the junior into a tie for second.

The final round of the two-round 36-hole Cal Classic concludes tomorrow at the par-72, 6,304-yard Ruby Hill Golf Club. Live Scoring is available at www.golfstat.com
