Women's golf to host 2011 Pac-10 Championships

The No. 10 Arizona State women’s golf team hosts the 2011 Pac-10 Women’s Golf Championships, April 17-19, at its home ASU Karsten Golf Course. The teams, consisting of a five-player line-up, will play 56 holes over the course of three days. Golfers will tee off on holes one and 10 beginning at 8 a.m. each morning, Sunday-Tuesday.

Arizona State has won the most Pac-10 Championships in conference history (8), with its last team title coming in 2009. Last season, the Sun Devils were on the cusp of winning their ninth-straight conference title, however the team was unable to finish due to the withdrawal of two players for illness. With out a fourth line-up score, the Sun Devils were unable to compete for the team title, but the three remaining players finished the tournament one, two and three.

The Sun Devils also have fielded the most individual Pac-10 Champions in conference history with 11 in the 24 years the tournament has been held. Junior Carlota Ciganda heads into the 2011 Pac-10 Championships as the reigning Conference Champion and the only back-to-back Pac-10 Individual Champion in league history. Arizona State’s Wendy Ward is the only other player, in the history of the championship, to win the title twice. Ciganda will be aiming to win a record third Pac-10 Championship on her home course.
