Women's basketball ranked 12th

For ASU, the No. 12 ranking matches the program's second highest position in a final poll. The Sun Devils were also ranked 12th in the Associated Press poll at the conclusion of the 1982-83 season. ASU's highest ever finish came following the 2006-07 season when it was eighth in the coaches' poll.

In 2008-09 ASU set a school record for consecutive wins (15) while also accounting for the program's second-highest single-season totals for overall (26) and Pac-10 wins (15). The Sun Devils closed the season by winning 18 of their final 21 games. They had their school record 15-game winning steak snapped by eventual Final Four participant Stanford (77-68) on March 7 in Palo Alto, Calif. It was in that contest that ASU lost leading scorer Dymond Simon for the remainder of the season after she injured her knee midway through the first half.

Over the last month of the season the Sun Devils recorded victories over then-ninth-ranked California (10th in final poll) 63-41 in Berkeley, then-12th-ranked Florida State (18th in final poll) 63-58 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament and then-ninth-ranked Texas A&M (seventh in final poll) 84-69 in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. In their second Elite Eight appearance in the last three years the Sun Devils were knocked off by eventual national champion Connecticut in the Trenton Regional final.

With its fifth consecutive NCAA berth in 2009, ASU is one of 20 schools whose current streak of NCAA appearances is five or more. ASU is also one of 15 schools that has qualified for the Sweet 16 three or more times in the last five years and one of nine schools that has qualified for the Elite Eight at least two times in the last three years.
