Women's basketball to face Arizona

Column by Nick Prete, ASU News

The season so far for the Sun Devils women's basketball team has been a good one. Only one victory away from their first 20 win season in over 8 years, the Sun Devils head into the Pac-12 tournament this Thursday 19-10. In the tournament's 10 year history, the Sun Devils have been to the finals 3 different times, and they hope to increase that number this weekend.

Because of their No. 4 seed in the Pac-12 the team will have a first round bye and then on Thursday play No. 12 seed Arizona. The Sun Devils have swept the Wildcats this season but when they last met at the Territorial Cup this past Saturday the Devils went into the half with an 11 point deficit. In the second half ASU came back from the deficit and beat the Wildcats 70-63. The Devils have beat Arizona in the last 12 of their 13 match-ups and the last two times they met, ASU won by more than ten points.

"It was awesome, to be able to play the way we played in our final regular season game," said coach Anders in a teleconference Tuesday.

If they beat Arizona they move on to face either 28-1 Stanford or 17-12 Washington on Friday.

"Being, of course, on the side with Stanford.. is no fun," said coach Anders. He's confident though in his team's ability to put in the work to win. "The one thing our team has done all year is work, and we're not afraid of it. We know what's before us is going to take a lot of work."

Make sure to tune in to the game against Arizona at 3:15 p.m. MT, and if we win, the game against Stanford tomorrow at 1 p.m. MT. Coach Anders is excited about the tournament and told the press, "We're ready."

Go Devils!
