Wissler to present papers, chair panels at ABA meeting

Roselle Wissler, Research Director of the Lodestar Dispute Resolution Program at the College of Law, will chair two panels and present two papers at the ABA Section of Dispute Resolution’s 13th Annual Spring Conference, April 13-16 in Denver.

The first panel, “Court-Connected Mediation Models: Staff and Volunteer Mediators,” is part of the Syposium on ADR in the Courts. Panelists will discuss the characteristics and structure of staff and volunteer mediation programs that can contribute to the provision of quality court-connected mediation services.

The second panel, titled, “Court Mediation and Settlement Conferences: Staff Mediators, Magistrate Judges, or Trial Judges?,” will focus on the effect of judicial involvement in settlement conferences on the quality of the settlement process and the integrity of subsequent proceedings.

For both panels, Wissler will present the findings of a recent study she conducted that obtained lawyers’ views of court-sponsored settlement procedures in federal courts.
