It was James Harden Beard Night at ASU, and many in attendance sported some rather suspect tributes to the ASU alum as the Sun Devils hosted the Lobos of New Mexico Nov. 18.

Gus Farwell, the backup quarterback on the 1996 Rose Bowl team who is now pursuing a career as an operatic tenor, sang the national anthem.

Farwell was joined courtside by another quarterback alum, Jake Plummer, who was to be recognized at Saturday night’s football game for his many athletic achievements both at ASU and in the NFL.

Carrick Felix (0) flies past Drew Gordon (32) of New Mexico. Felix led Arizona State with 20 points, but it wasn't enough as the Sun Devils fell just short to New Mexico on Friday night, 76-71.

Both attempts failed and the University of Arizona held on for a 31-27 Territorial Cup victory.

Alex Earl (12) scored 10 points and had four assists, plus three steals which helped the Sun Devils record, now 3-0 for the first time since the 2006-2007 season.

The Sun Devils will face Illinois Friday, Nov. 25 (4 p.m. AT/1 p.m. MT) and Rutgers on Saturday (4 p.m. AT/1 p.m. MT).

Arizona State redshirt junior Levi Cooper (right) defeated Grand Canyon's Jordan Johnson in the first match of the 2011 NWCA All American Classic Monday night. In the only exhibition match of the night, Cooper used a takedown in the third period to collect a 3-2 decision over Johnson, a transfer from the University of Iowa and two-time place winner at the Asics University National Championships.

Joel Smith (bottom) fell behind early to Oklahoma State's Jamal Parks, but countered with a pair of reversals and escapes to help cut the margin. Parks, however, tacked on a pair of takedowns and two bonus points for riding time in the third period to win the match in front of more than 1,500 fans at Wells Fargo Arena. The Sun Devils travel to Troy, N.Y., to compete in the Journeymen/ASICS Northeast Duals over the Thanksgiving weekend.
