Athletes gathered in the lobby of the Carson Student Athlete Center to honor the 2009 Women's Golf Team who won the NCAA National Title. James Garcia (right) and Julie Amparano chat with Andrew Valenzuela prior to the premier performance of a one-act play, “A Boy Named Cesar" at ASU’s West Campus. The play celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month and focuses on labor leader Cesar Chavez, as a 10-year-old boy in Yuma, Ariz., who would grow up to become one of the nation’s great civil rights leaders. The play was written by faculty members Garcia and Amparano and Valenzuela is one of the performers in the production.

Two students head back to the Downtown Phoenix campus after a visit to the Fair Trade Coffee Shop in the lower level of the A.E. England Motors Building in the Civic Space Park across from the University Center. Fair Trade is one of a number of business that serves the Downtown campus community.
Zac Zetterberg, a graduate student in the School of Art at the Herberger Institute of the Arts, assists Fatima Al-Zeheri in selecting work for her portfolio, which will be reviewed as part of the process of being admitted to upper division classes.
Prior to the Louisiana-Monroe football game, the first Obama Scholars Tailgate Party was held on the Alumni Lawn. The Dixie Devils provided live music, along with more contemporary sounds from a DJ.

ASU football fans arrive for the big game. The Metro Light Rail is proving to be a popular way for fans to get to Sun Devil Stadium.
The Sun Devils take the field against the University of Louisiana at Monroe Warhawks. Omar Bolder (3), started things off quickly by returning the opening kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown, along with an interception later in the game.
Dimitri Nance (31), scored two touchdowns against the Warhawks, as well as rushing for 82 yards on 17 carries.

A hit by defensive end Greg Smith’s caused the Warhawks’ quarterback Trey Revell’s pass to be intercepted by the Sun Devils.

Sparky greeted about 150 national scholars from Barrett, the Honors College, who were honored at half-time. ASU enrolled 158 National Merit Scholars and 118 National Hispanic Achievement Scholars in this fall's freshman class.
