Water polo travels to doubleheader in California

March 20, 2012

The Arizona State University water polo team will take part in its second doubleheader in three days on Tuesday, March 20, as the women will take on Princeton and Asuza-Pacific in Walnut, Calif.

The Sun Devils are coming off a weekend where the team went 2-1 after dropping a tough match to No. 1 UCLA on Saturday before routing Pomona-Pitzer and Iona on Sunday.  Arizona State is now 18-3 on the season and 2-1 in MPSF play.

Senior Alicia Brightwell had 10 goals on the weekend with four against the Bruins and three apiece against the Sagehens and Gaels.  Her four goals were not quite enough against UCLA as the team fell 8-6 but were more than enough as the team took down Iona, 16-3, and Pomona-Pitzer, 21-6.  The Sagehens were ranked second the DIII Coaches Poll.

The latter marked the most goals that the Sun Devils had scored in a true road contest in school history.

The Princeton Tigers are 19-2 on the season and entered the past weekend ranked 18th in the country while Asuza-Pacific is currently unranked in any poll.

Tomorrow's action begins at 3 p.m. PST as the Sun Devils take on Princeton before turning right around and facing the Cougars in the afternoon cap.  Check back at www.thesundevils.com at the conclusion of the day's competition for a complete recap of events.
