Washington State tops volleyball 3-0

Arizona State volleyball fell in set scores of 25-22, 25-17 and 25-20 as Washington State rolled to a 3-0 victory Saturday night at Bohler Gym.

WSU hit above a .300 attack percentage on the night, improving the Cougars to an even 12-12 overall and 4-10 on the year while ASU falls to 5-18 and 1-13 in Pac-12.

Arizona State opened the match with 16 kills in the first frame, six from Ashley Kastl alongside 16 assists from Shannan McCready. Starting behind at 7-3, an ASU rally brought the Sun Devils within four at 20-16. Errors late in the set were costly in allowing the Cougars to pull away 25-22 to go up 1-0.

Set two proved difficult with WSU hitting a .324 attack percentage and tallying five blocks - ASU failed to record a block all night.

The Cougars jumped to an 11-4 cushion that Arizona State was only able to come within four of at 18-14 before eventually falling 25-17.

In the third frame ASU managed to stay within reach through a slow start to 13-10. From there Nora Tuioti-Mariner and Kastl kept the maroon and gold hopes alive at 20-18 but errors again hindered the Sun Devils en route to falling 25-20 on a 6-2 point run.

Sun Devil volleyball returns to Wells Fargo arena for a four-game home stand starting with Oregon on Nov. 4 and Oregon State on Nov. 5; both games slated for a 7 p.m. start.
