Volleyball opens Pac-12 slate at Oregon State

With its first weekend of Pac-12 conference action underway, the Arizona State volleyball squad will take on Oregon State at 7 pm., Sept. 16, followed by 16th-ranked Oregon at 1 p.m., Sept, 18.

The Sun Devils enter the weekend with a record of 4-5 and are paced offensively by Ashley Kastl's 3.22 kills per set. Oregon State boasts a record of 8-2, while No. 16 Oregon is 6-1 overall.

The last time out, ASU went 1-2 at the Carolina Classic with a 3-1 win over Georgia Southern before falling to then 19th-ranked San Diego and North Carolina, both to sweeps. The Sun Devils look to bounce back as they lead the all-time series with the Beavers 36-15 and are just as impressive against Oregon at 35-15.

Scouting Oregon State | 8-2, 0-0 Pac-12 The last time the two teams met, ASU topped the Beavers 3-2 in Corvallis (Oct. 9, 2010) and added a sweep at home, 3-0 (Nov. 5, 2010). This time around OSU enters the contest on a six-game win streak, most recently a 3-2 victory against No. 22 Long Beach State. Led by Camille Saxton and her 3.41 kills per set, the team is hitting at a .227 clip.

Scouting No. 16 Oregon | 6-1, 0-0 Pac-12 In 2010, Oregon claimed a pair of victories against ASU, 3-1 (Oct. 8) and 3-2 (Nov. 6). The Ducks got off to a hot start in the 2011 campaign with a 3-1 win against top-ranked Penn Sate. Alaina Bergsma has a team-best 109 kills, while five others on the roster are hitting about .250 for a team percentage of .275. Oregon leads the conference in assists (13.48/set) and kills (14.67/set).
