U Devils conduct appreciation events for staff, faculty

Everyone likes to be appreciated, and the ASU Alumni Association is saying “thank you” to members of its U Devils group by conducting events over the course of a five-week period that celebrate their contributions to the association.<separator></separator>This year, the group, which is comprised of ASU faculty and staff who are also Alumni Association members, will be able to participate in an online “treasure hunt,” a social media-based event that will offer substantial prizes for the winners.<separator></separator>They also will have a chance to receive tickets to the Lyric Opera Theatre’s staging of the “Rocky Horror Picture Show,” enjoy an outdoor picnic, and more.<separator></separator>The group has enjoyed steady growth since its formation in 2007, and is one of the association’s greatest success stories in the membership acquisition area, according to Christine K. Wilkinson, Alumni Association president.<separator></separator>“ASU employees who are also Alumni Association members have a deep commitment to the university,” she said. “We have been thrilled with the growth of U Devils. We want to continue celebrating that connection, as well as continue to find ways to recognize this group of Sun Devils who are so critical to the success of ASU’s mission.”<separator></separator>While the primary purpose of the appreciation events is to say thank you, another purpose is to recruit new members. Current members who recruit a faculty or staff member to join U Devils will be rewarded with a festive Sparky “hand waver,” which can be used as a hand puppet, a wine bottle cover or even a holiday tree topper. Those who recruit two members receive their choice of an ASU umbrella or a U Devils polo shirt. New recruits also receive the hand wavers and will join their U Devil contacts at an invitation-only high tea at the University Club on May 4.<separator></separator>U Devils Appreciation Events:<separator></separator>March 31: U Devils Launch Mixer, 5-6:30 p.m., Carson Ballroom, Old Main, Tempe campus An after-work mixer featuring light appetizers, wine, beer and other beverages, as well as prize drawings.<separator></separator> April 6, 7 and 8: Lunch Bunch gatherings, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.  A sandwich lunch and a special gift will be provided to current U Devil members.   April 6: West campus, FAB Breakroom  April 7: Polytechnic campus, AGBC 101 (Agribusiness Centre Conference Room)  April 8: Downtown campus, UCENT 822 (8th Floor Conference Room)<separator></separator> April 18: U Devils at the Rocky Horror Picture Show  U Devils will have a chance to win free tickets to enjoy this stage show, a cult favorite, at the Lyric Opera Theatre.   April 22: Fun-a-fair Picnic, 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., Old Main Lawn, Tempe campus U Devil members and guests can bring their lunch, enjoy light treats courtesy of the Alumni Association and play fun carnival games.<separator></separator> April 23: U Devils Day at Women’s Softball, 7 p.m., Farrington Stadium, 655 S. Rural Road, Tempe campus.<separator></separator>U Devils will be eligible to receive 4 complimentary tickets to the game, which pits ASU against the University of Oregon.   April 28:“The Amazing U Devils Race,” noon-1 p.m., online  U Devils can experience hot competition from the cool comfort of their office cubicles. The game, which will be played on the group’s Facebook page, will feature prizes such as a two-night stay at the Tempe Mission Palms, gift certificates, Gammage tickets and more.
