Tsosie to be judge for San Carlos Apache Tribal Court of Appeals

<p><a href="http://www.law.asu.edu/Apps/Faculty/Faculty.aspx?individual_id=127">Reb… Tsosie</a>, Executive Director of the Indian Legal Program, will be sworn in on Jan. 30 as a new Court of Appeals Judge for the San Carlos Tribal Court of Appeals.</p><separator></separator><p>The San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation, created by executive order on Nov. 9, 1871, spans about two million acres across Gila, Graham, and Pinal counties in southeastern Arizona. It is home to several different Apache tribes relocated from their traditional lands in Arizona and New Mexico. The 2000 Census listed its population at 9,385.</p><separator></separator><p>Tsosie teaches in the areas of Indian law, Property, Bioethics, and Critical Race Theory, as well as seminars in International Indigenous Rights and Cultural Resources Law. She has written and published widely on doctrinal and theoretical issues related to tribal sovereignty, environmental policy and cultural rights, and is the author of many prominent articles dealing with cultural resources and cultural pluralism. She also is the co-author with Robert Clinton and Carole Goldberg of a federal Indian law casebook. Her current research deals with Native rights to genetic resources. Tsosie annually speaks at several national conferences on tribal sovereignty, self-determination, and tribal rights to environmental and cultural resources.</p><separator></separator><p>Tsosie joined the College faculty in 1993 and has served as Executive Director of the top-ranked Indian Legal Program since 1996. She was appointed as a Willard H.
