Tonto Creek Camp to assume mangement of Camp Tontozona

Camp Tontozona, a relaxing 36-acre campsite in the Tonto National Forest just a few hours away from the ASU campuses, has hosted decades of events and retreats for Sun Devil athletics, families and businesses and the community.

Effective May 1, 2011, the non-profit organization Tonto Creek Camp will assume management of the campground that serves as a serene destination point for ASU faculty, staff, alumni and retirees and the community.

“Under these difficult financial times at the university, we’re pleased that Tonto Creek Camp was able to come forward and help maintain this special ASU tradition,” said Sam Wheeler, executive director of Auxiliary Business Services at Arizona State University. “ASU and Tonto Creek Camp are committed to providing a seamless transition for all the Sun Devils, their families and friends, and community organizations who enjoy spending time at Camp T each year.”

Camp Tontozona provides the perfect setting for groups of all sizes, accommodating individuals looking for respite, a small get-together of family and friends, or a large group for family reunions and conferences.

On site, campers find comfortable lodging in fully furnished cabins, playing fields, classrooms and a meeting hall surrounded by scenic mountains, creeks and hiking trails. Horseback riding and fishing are within one mile of the campground. In addition, Tonto Creek Camp has plans for new and upgraded amenities and services, including a challenge course and sport court, new event and game room, and outdoor sports.

The university will continue to handle reservations taking place on or before April 30. Faculty, staff and campus organizations who would like to visit Camp T during the next two months are encouraged to book now to lock in the ASU rates that will still be in effect during this time. Information on how to make a reservation can be found at http://campt.asu.edu.

ASU affiliates may continue to stay at Camp T after May 1; however, a different rate structure will be in place and reservations will be handled by the new management group, Tonto Creek Camp. More information regarding the transition will be made available in the coming months.
