Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College at Arizona State University continues to ascend in the rankings of the nation’s top college of education graduate programs, climbing six spots in the past year.

The 2015 U.S. News & World Report Best Graduate Schools rankings released today listed ASU’s Teachers College as 18th among 245 public and private graduate education programs nationwide. Last year, ASU’s graduate education programs placed 24th in the U.S. News rankings.

The 2015 report also showed Teachers College ranking first among graduate education programs in Arizona.

A key contributor within a nationally recognized research-intensive university, Teachers College offers rigorous graduate programs founded in scholarship and led by nationally and internationally renowned thought leaders in their field. In fiscal year 2013, research conducted by programs of education at ASU totaled more than $32 million.

“As a part of ASU’s knowledge enterprise, our students gain access to cutting-edge resources, and are taught by faculty scholars who are active researchers in their field,” said Mari Koerner, dean of the college. “Our courses are infused with the latest educational theories, research and technologies. Additionally, our students engage in on- and off-campus learning opportunities that prepare them for success in teaching, as well as administration leadership positions in classrooms and communities.”

Teachers College’s award-winning faculty scholars are led by a Nobel laureate, 14 American Educational Research Association fellows, five Fulbright American scholars, four members of the National Academy of Education and an appointee to President Obama’s Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics.

This emphasis on advanced educational research is reflected in the college’s revised and expanded doctoral program offerings as follows:

• The Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Policy and Evaluation prepares scholars who teach and conduct rigorous, high-impact research on education policy that advances our collective understanding of K-20 education.

• The Doctor of Philosophy in Learning, Literacies and Technologies is a scholarly enterprise dedicated to high-quality, influential research that transforms education in Arizona, nationally and internationally.

• The Doctor of Education in Leadership and Innovation is designed for practicing educator-leaders who work in a range of settings and want to transform and better their practice, and create better learning opportunities for students of all ages.

According to Koerner, Teachers College partnerships with schools and communities inform college faculty so they can redesign graduate programs in ways that respond to education’s most pressing challenges.

“Through these ongoing relationships, our potential to reform grows exponentially,” she said. “Our newly revised doctoral programs are all models of collaboration, rigor and interdisciplinary work, and will prepare researchers needed for the 21st century.”
