Sundby named Pac-12 Gymnastics Special Performance of the Week
Arizona State gymnast Natasha Sundby was named Pac-12 Gymnastics Special Performance of the Week, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
Sophomore Natasha Sundby scored a career-high 9.900 on floor to lead Arizona State to a season-high floor team score of 49.150, besting the Bruins in the event. UCLA came into the meet as the top-ranked floor team in collegiate gymnastics with the No. 1 and 2 ranked floor workers, nationally.
Anchoring the Sun Devils' floor line-up, Sundby hit every pass and used the energy from the crowd to score the first 9.900 for the Sun Devils this season and take home her first solo individual floor title facing steep competition against the top-ranked floor team of UCLA.
This is Sundby's first career Pac-12 honor and the fourth Special Performance honor for Arizona State since the award was instated in 2008. This also marks the first time Arizona State has received a weekly honor from the Pac-12 since Tiana Jean won the Special Performance of the Week award in 2009.
Also nominated for Special Performance of the Week: Aubree Cristello, ARIZ; Stephanie McGregor, OSU; Samantha Shapiro, STAN; Vanessa Zamarripa, UCLA; Tory Wilson, UTAH; Aliza Vaccher, WASH.
Next up, the Gym Devils travel to Salt Lake City to face off against the ninth-ranked Utah Utes on Friday in the John L. Huntsman Center. As of Monday, Utah has sold 9,817 tickets for the Pac-12 match-up.
