Sun Devil women's basketball defeats Oregon State, 66-55


The Arizona State women's basketball team swept the state of Oregon with a 66-55 win over the Oregon State Beavers Sunday afternoon. The Sun Devils won their second straight after starting the weekend with a 60-45 win over Oregon on Jan. 11.


Three Sun Devils scored in double figures, led by Promise Amukamara, who logged 13 points and two rebounds. Micaela Pickens ended the day with 12, while Janae Fulcherwas not far behind with 11 points and five rebounds. Freshman Arnecia Hawkins had a perfect shooting day for the Sun Devils, going 3-3 from the field and 2-2 from beyond the arc. Junior Adrianne Thomas paced ASU with seven of the team's 19 assists.


The Beavers (7-9, 1-3 Pac-12) also had three players in double digits led by Phoenix native Patricia Bright who recorded 12 points and eight rebounds. Samantha Siegner also ended the day with 12, followed by Jamie Weisner with 10.


Arizona State shot 52.1 percent, with while holding Oregon State to 45.8 percent shooting.


The weather was cold outside yet the Sun Devils (10-6, 2-2 Pac-12) wasted no time getting things warmed up on the court in the first half, starting with an 8-0 run the first two minutes of the game. The Sun Devils scored 16 points in the first five minutes of the half off of 72 percent shooting. (8-11).


ASU would lead the entire game despite various attempts by the Beavers to pull closer. Oregon State would get within two points in the final minute of the first half and within three points the first minute of the second half, however was never able to pull even. 


ASU led by as many as 12 on three different occasions in the first half.


A 12-5 run by the Beavers got them with 32-30 with 31 seconds left in the first half, however Pickens answered with a three-pointer for the Sun Devils, extending their lead to 35-30 at the half.


The Beavers scored the first points of the second half to cut ASU's lead to 35-32, however Amukamara, who scored 11 of her 13 points in the second half, responded with two layups in less than a minute to build ASU's lead back up to seven .


Hawkins gave the Sun Devils another double-digit lead after her 3-pointer put ASU up 45-34 with 15:51 remaining.


The Beavers would respond with a 6-0 run, but would get no closer than four points the rest of the game.


The Sun Devils return to action next week when they go on the road to face Colorado (7 p.m. MT, Jan. 18) and Utah (3 p.m. MT, Jan. 20).
