Sun Devil Water Polo sweeps second day at Brown tourney


The Arizona State water polo team continued its dominant offensive performance with a day two sweep at the Brown Tournament Saturday, taking down Brown and Hartwick and improving to 22-5 on the season.

Senior Shannon Haas once again led the Sun Devils in scoring, coming away with four goals off of six shots to aid the 16-5 win over the host team Brown University. 


ASU started the opening match rather quiet, leading Brown by a mere score of 4-1 at the half before the third quarter explosion where the Sun Devils rallied for six goals before a five-goal performance in the fourth. 


Goalie E.B. Keeves racked up 12 saves in her three-quarter performance while keeping the first quarter scoreless for the Bears. Abbey Kerth had a team-high three steals on the day.


ASU 10, Hartwick 7 


The Sun Devils came out victorious with a 10-7 win over the Hartwick Hawks in the second game of the day, improving to 3-0 in the Brown Tournament. 


Veterans Alicia Brightwell and Shannon Haas netted four goals a piece for the Sun Devils. 


Gao Ao played with aggression on both sides of the ball, coming with five steals on the day while adding three assists to the stat sheet.


The Hawks would be within two heading into the third quarter of action before ASU once again found rally power to pull away and take an 8-4 lead heading into the fourth quarter.


ASU is now 22-0 on the year when not allowing the opposition to score in double digits and has outscored the opposition 284-187 on the year. 


The Sun Devils look close out strong Sunday, April 7 where ASU takes on Michigan (9:15 a.m ET) followed by Harvard at 12:15 ET.
