Sun Devil Water Polo drops home tilt to Stanford, 17-7

The third-ranked Arizona State University water polo team dropped its fifth contest of the season on March 24, falling to No. 2 Stanford at home in a 17-7 decision at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center.

The Cardinal jumped out to an early 4-0 over the Sun Devils (18-5, 3-2 MPSF) and never looked back as ASU struggled against Stanford’s top-ranked defense for much of the game.

Shannon Haas had three goals for the Sun Devils while also playing much of the defensive side of the game guarding Olympic gold-medalist Maggie Steffens, where she performed exceptionally.  Steffens managed just one goal that didn’t come off a penalty shot while Haas forced numerous turnovers over the course of the game.

Haas brought her season tally to 46 goals, just one shy of her career season’s best with several games still left to go this year.

Petra Pardi scored twice for the Sun Devils while E.B. Keeve had 10 stops in a little over three quarters of play for ASU in the goal.

ASU returns to action tomorrow in the finale of the ASU Invitational, where they will take on #19 Hartwick at 2:30 p.m. PT.
