Sun Devil Olympian: Kyle Alcorn

July 12, 2012

Sun Devil Kyle Alcorn, who attended ASU in 2006-2008, had some time to discuss his upcoming trip to London, where he will be competing in the steeplechase at the 2012 Olympics.

The steeplechase, described as a combination of long-distance running and hurdling, is a 3,000-meter race – just under 2 miles – with five barriers. "It's definitely a taxing race," says Alcorn, who nabbed the third and final qualifying spot for the Olympic event that historically has been dominated by East Africans.

After being greeted by a large group of friends and family in his hometown of Fresno, Calif., Alcorn is off to Europe, where he will compete in several races in Switzerland and Dublin, Ireland, before flying to London for the opening ceremonies, July 26.

After 10 years of competing, Alcorn says of his latest achievement: "It's a once in a lifetime experience."
