A recently added competition field on Arizona State University’s West campus will host men’s lacrosse games during the spring 2014 semester. Men’s lacrosse becomes the first Sun Devil sports club to make the West campus the site of its home games.

The public is invited to attend the games, which are scheduled for February through April. There is no admission charge.

“We played a couple of games at West last season, including a regular season game and a conference playoff game,” said Chris Malone, the team’s coach. “Everyone on campus made us feel welcome and the new field is in great condition.”

Games will be played on the 6-acre competition multipurpose field on the south side of campus, which is part of the new Sun Devil Fitness Complex. The 63,000-square-foot fitness facility includes amenities such as a lap pool, indoor track, indoor racquet ball court, strength and fitness areas, and a two-court gymnasium. Additional outdoor facilities include volleyball and basketball courts.

The men’s lacrosse sports club has achieved success on the field, earning the title of champions of the Southwestern Lacrosse Conference three of the last four years and advancing to the Final Four of the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association tournament five seasons in a row.

“Hosting the lacrosse sports club games at ASU’s West location brings another positive level of student engagement to our community,” said Sharon Smith, interim dean of students on the West campus. “Last spring, large numbers of West students cheered on their Sun Devil lacrosse team to two victories. Our community is enthusiastic about the team making the campus its home for competition games. Not only is lacrosse moving to West great news for the students, but also for the surrounding West Valley.”

Next spring’s schedule for home games is:

Feb. 21: University of Minnesota Duluth, 7 p.m.

March 20: Sonoma State, 7 p.m.

March 22: Simon Fraser, time TBD

March 25: University of Illinois, 7 p.m.

April 12: San Diego State, 1 p.m.
