Consider yourself advised: Arizona State University football fans headed into Sun Devil Stadium before an upcoming home game may be visited by a new group of students: Sparky’s Plate Patrol. The squad will reward attendees with ASU-themed license plates, and encourage those without such plates to show their support for the university by purchasing an ASU collegiate license plate, also known as a “Sparky plate.”

Members of Sparky’s Plate Patrol will be surveying parking lots on ASU’s Tempe campus closest to Sun Devil Stadium before football games on Sept. 24, Oct. 1, Oct. 29, Nov. 19 and Nov. 25. Clad in black T-shirts emblazoned with an ASU collegiate plate, the patrol members will take photographs of personalized ASU-themed plates and distribute complementary key chains to car owners possessing Sparky plates. Sparky plate photos taken by patrol members while on their rounds will be shared in social media and posted on the Alumni Association’s website. Owners of vehicles without Sparky plates will receive information explaining how to purchase one.

Patrol members are participants in the Medallion Scholarship program, which is administered by the ASU Alumni Association. The Medallion Scholarship program gives students who are Arizona residents financial support and the opportunity to foster their personal development and leadership skills while attending ASU. More than 100 ASU students are currently part of the Medallion program. The collegiate license plate program fuels the Medallion Scholarship program; for every Sparky plate purchased, $17 of the $25 fee goes directly to the scholarship fund.
