Kostalena Michelaki-Schwartz is a professor in the School of Human Evolution and Social Change in the Ceramic Technology Microscopy Lab. The lab is dedicated to the macroscopic and microscopic analysis of archaeological materials – mostly ceramics, but also stone tools. The primary focus is on the generation of data that reveal the choices people made in all the stages of the ceramic and lithic operational sequence.
The ASU Origins Project hosted its annual Great Debate, Feb. 1, at ASU Gammage. The event, "Parallel Realities: Probing Fundamental Physics at Gammage Auditorium," included Nobel laureates Frank Wilczek, David Gross and Brian Schmidt, as well as esteemed scientists Wendy Freedman, Maria Spiropulu and Lawrence Krauss.

Knarik Arakelyan and Ani Manukyan, scholars from Yerevan State University in Armenia, are in-residence in ASU's Women and Gender Studies Program for spring 2014.
The scholars are observing courses, developing new syllabi for their home institution and meeting with faculty to discuss gender studies research and teaching as part of a USAID/Higher Education Development-funded Women and Leadership partnership. ASU is one of only five U.S. universities selected to participate in the agency's Women's Leadership program.
Arizona high school sophomores participate in the AVID Conference at Arizona State University Feb. 7.
