RJ Ybarra named Pac-12 baseball player of the week

Arizona State University freshman RJ Ybarra has been named Pac-12 Player of the Week, the Conference announced April 8.

This is Ybarra's first career Pac-12 Player of the Week honor and Arizona State's Conference-leading 103rd all-time selection. He is the fourth Sun Devil to earn honors this season and the second position player.

Ybarra drove in game-winning runs on April 2 at Wichita State and April 6 against Oregon to help the Sun Devils post a 4-1 record and take two out of three games from highly ranked Oregon in Tempe.

He delivered a two-out RBI single in the top of the ninth inning to give ASU a 4-3 win over the Shockers, and followed it up with an RBI single to left-center field in the bottom of the 11th inning that lifted the Devils to a 6-5 walk-off victory over Oregon.

Ybarra batted .385 (5-for-14) with two doubles, four RBI and a pair of runs scored over the past five games and finished the week with a .538 slugging percentage and a .420 on-base percentage. On April 6, he went 2-for-5 with a two-run double and scored a run in a series-clinching 14-9 win over the Ducks.
