Professor comments on Ariz. law

Professor Carissa Byrne Hessick was quoted in an article, “Administration Argues Against Arizona Law,” in The Wall Street Journal on July 23.

Reporter Miriam Jordan, writing about federal court hearings on July 22 in Phoenix over lawsuits filed by the Obama administration, the American Civil Liberties Union and a coalition of civil-rights groups, quoted Hessick as saying the question is what states can do to address immigration.

“The federal government is saying: ‘We should have sole control.’ The state is saying there is room for us to do things, too,” Byrne Hessick said.
