Photo-radar debate: What the studies say

Use of photo-radar technology to control traffic speed and prevent red-light running continues to be intensely debated in Arizona.

Arizona State University faculty member Ram Pendyala recently joined in a lively discussion of the pros and cons of photo-radar enforcement on the public affairs program Horizon on KAET-Channel 8.

Pendyala is a professor in the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment, one of ASU's Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering. His expertise is in transportation and traffic engineering.

On Horizon, Pendyala points to what can be learned from rigorous statistical studies on the effects of photo-radar on traffic control in states and communities across the country.
