Parking and Transit Services announces Interim Director

Melinda Alonzo Helton has been named interim director of Parking and Transit Services (PTS) at Arizona State University. Alonzo, who has served for the last eight years as an assistant director for PTS, was named to the new post earlier this month after former Director Theresa Fletcher relocated to her native Chicago to become Director of Transportation and Parking Services for the University of Chicago.

Alonzo joined ASU’s Parking and Transit Services in 1999 as the events program coordinator and went on to manage many areas of the department including permit sales, appeals, field operations and communications.  More recently, as the Assistant Director for customer relations, she had oversight of the customer service areas at ASU’s Tempe Campus as well as the Polytechnic and West campus parking offices and operations.

“We are very proud of the service Melinda has provided to Parking and Transit Services over the years, and feel confident she will be able to continue to lead the department in offering transportation options and solutions to the ASU community,” says Sam Wheeler, executive director of Auxiliary Business Services.

Alonzo received a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration/marketing from the University of Arizona and has more than 15 years of parking industry experience with both university and private operations. In 2007, she earned the parking and transportation industry's highest professional certification, Certified Administrator of Public Parking (CAPP), through an extended education program administered by the University of Virginia and sponsored by the International Parking Institute of which she is a member.
