Painting the 'A': a look into its history, tradition

Whitewashing the "A," an ASU tradition for nearly 75 years, symbolizes a fresh beginning at the start of the academic year. It's one of the first things incoming freshman to do to feel engrained in the university and into traditions at ASU. After the event, the "A" remains white until the night before the first home game of the season, when it is returned to its familiar ASU gold.
