Offense powers No. 16 baseball past Bethune-Cookman, 15-7

Nine different Sun Devils collected an RBI and freshman left-hander Ryan Kellogg pitched four scoreless innings as the 16th-ranked Arizona State University baseball team defeated Bethune-Cookman 15-7, Feb. 16, at Packard Stadium.

Kellogg (1-0) earned the win in his first career appearance after he scattered three hits across four innings and struck out four. Through two games, three freshmen pitchers have combined to allow one run on four hits with nine strikeouts in nine innings pitched.

Freshman David Graybill, making his first career start at first base, went 3-for-4 with an RBI and scored two runs, and both shortstop Drew Stankiewicz and center fielder Kasey Coffman added two hits, two RBI and two runs scored to lead the Sun Devils (2-0).

Bethune-Cookman (0-2) jumped on the scoreboard first with three runs on two hits in the opening frame, and added two more in the second inning to take a 5-3 advantage, but that would be their final lead of the game as ASU outscored the Wildcats 9-1 over the next three innings.

The Sun Devils plated three runs in both the bottom of the first, highlighted by Graybill's two-out RBI single, and the bottom of the second on a two-run double by right fielder Trever Allen.

ASU took the lead for good in the bottom of the third on a two-run triple by Coffman before the Devils put the game out of reach with four runs in the fourth inning, including freshman RJ Ybarra's first career RBI.

Freshman outfielder Cullen O'Dwyer laced a two-run double into deep center field in his first career at-bat and Stankiewicz tacked on an RBI in the sixth inning to stretch the ASU lead to nine, 15-6.

Sophomore left-hander Adam McCreery tied a career high with five strikeouts, but took a no-decision after he allowed six runs, including four earned, in three innings.

Redshirt junior right-hander Zak Miller gave up one hit and one run in the eighth and junior right-hander Josh McAlister closed out the game with a scoreless ninth inning.

B-CU starting left-hander Ali Simpson (0-1) surrendered eight runs, including seven earned, on 10 hits in 2 1/3 innings.
