New biosensors to help improve health

Work on sensor technology led by Arizona State University electrical engineer Nongjian Tao promises to improve the health of people with asthma.

Tao is a professor in the School of Electrical, Computer and Energy Engineering, one of ASU’s Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering. He also directs the Center for Bioelectronics and Biosensors in ASU’s Biodesign Institute.

His research team is developing a handheld sensor designed to improve diagnosis of asthma. It will also provide information about users’ conditions that could reduce the risk of asthma attacks and other adverse effects.

The technology could also be designed to diagnose other diseases or ailments, and enable people to better monitor and improve their overall health.
